Spelling test: words we misspell in Spanish
Practice your Spanish writing
Do you dare to take a spelling test in Spanish? I have prepared for you a ‘spelling test‘ with ten words that we usually misspell in Spanish if we don’t consult a dictionary.
An accent can’t be that important! It certainly is. In Spanish an accent can change a word, for example: ‘más’, with an accent we use it to add more information and ‘mas’ without an accent is a synonym of ‘pero’. In addition, interference with other languages can lead us to make mistakes even at an advanced level.
We often worry about oral Spanish and sounding as similar as possible to a native speaker but we have to remember that writing is also very important when learning a language and especially if you are going to take an official DELE or SIELE exam. In these exams they evaluate our ability to write in Spanish.

How can I improve my spelling?
- Read a little bit of Spanish every day (whether it’s a news story, a blog article or a page from a book).
- Write a journal. You can write about your life or simply about a topic you enjoy such as traveling or cooking.
- Write down in a notebook all the words you have ever missed so you can review them many more times.
- Use post-its with those words you have missed and leave them in visible places so you can read them every day.

If you have missed many, it will comfort you to know that you are not alone and that even some native speakers make these mistakes. Tell me in the comments which words you missed, so you can practice writing them again.
